Day 11 Innsbruck

We are having a two day stop over ìn Innsbruck so we planned to do some sight seeing.

We took the main road out of town and once we left the suburbs the scenery became much nicer

Our first stop was the ski jump stadium at Garmisch Partenkirschen Germany
used in the 1936 Olympics,  it was weird to stand looking up at the jumps imagining the crowds and excitement. The stadium has been updated and it is still used for training

We then set off to the Alpsix platfòrm.  On route we passed an American army base named 'Edelweiss' -bit ironic really as the flower Edelweiss is supposed to be a symbol of peace and tranquillity.
We made our way to the Alpix platforn  just over the German border which considering what it is is badly signposted and hard to find.
For those that dont know what the Alpix platform is its a metal platforn that protrudes out of the side of a mountain in the Alps that is about 8000 feet above sea level and is only accesable by cable car and it offers views of 250 kms over 4 different counties.
Its an amazing place to visit even though it costs 25 euro each
When you stand at the end of the metal platform there is a vertical drop of 3000 feet and it and it can clearly be seen through the metal floor also when the wind blows or people walk on it you can feel the platform sway and move around
At the top there is a telescope / rangefinder that allows you to look at a mountain and it will tell you its name and how high it it is it also told you the direction of major German cities and how far away they were

After spending an hour at the top of a rather large cold mountain we got the cable car back to the ground and made our way back to Innsbruck Austria visiting the Innsbruck Ski jump as used in the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics

We called back at the hotel for a change of clothing and a shower and spent the rest of the day wandering around the city
The city itself is beautiful however it it is spolit by the rather large number of beggars mainly from muslim countries and the old eastern block who wander around in and out of restaurant asking for money as you shop and eat, the shop and restaurants owners turn a blind eye to it as though they are afraid of them  it is something the city authorities should address
